The City of Pismo Beach Fire Department in a cooperative fire protection agreement with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) employs a full-time staff including a Battalion Chief, three Fire Captains, three Fire Apparatus Engineers and an Administrative Assistant.

Additionally, the department employs 20 reserve/paid call firefighters and 20 seasonal lifeguards and junior lifeguard program instructors.
